AIDS Quilt 1

The collection of UK AIDS Quilts were made between 1989 and 1996 to commemorate friends, lovers and family members who passed away from an AIDS related illness during this time. You can zoom in to some of the specific details listed below.

The top left panel is for Kevin Bills. It features a chequerboard design with references to sport and Hugo Boss.

The top right panel has a title: ‘In Memory of Far too Many Friends and Colleagues, with love Janet’. The design features a series of interconnected flowers.

The central left panel is for the actor Ian Charleston. Next to his name in red is a picture of Ian.

The central right panel is for Peter. Below his name is a small picture of Peter and a Union Jack, with the text ‘Von Werfelli 1944 – 1989’.

The central bottom panel is for Gerald Dog. Below his name is the date 11th June 88 and a small image of a dog. Below this is stitched ‘I love & miss you’

The bottom right panel is for Our Chris. Below his name he is called ‘The Lad’ and the text reads: ‘The right to Live/ The Right to Breath/ The Right to Stand By/ All the Tings that I Believe.’
