AIDS Quilt 36

The collection of UK AIDS Quilts were made between 1989 and 1996 to commemorate friends, lovers and family members who passed away from an AIDS related illness during this time. You can zoom in to some of the specific details listed below.

The top left panel remembers Steven Luca and Derek Norfolk. The design features their names in two red sequinned hearts.

The top right panel has no name. The design features baby clothes, and image of children dancing in a circle followed by the text: ‘though I am young and cannot tell / Either what love is or death is well / Yet I have heard they both bear darts / and both do aim at human hearts.’

The centre left panel reads: ‘My name is Jade Rowan I am 7 years of age. I have done this quilt for all the children.’

The centre right panel is for David Horwood. The design features white flowers and a fruit arrangment against a pink triangle.

The lower left panel is for Michael Trask and features a series of panels representing houses.

The lower right panel is for Ken Barrow and features an image of Snow White from the animated Disney film, a candle and a pair of boots. Below is a stitched text reading: ‘Some day my prince will come’.

The bottom left panel is for AIDS Babies, Children and Adults, with the red AIDS remembrance ribbon on the design.

The bottom right panel is for John and features a red post box, a theatrical mask and stage curtains and an image of a window and rug.
